4x4 Training

A new dimension in off-roading and 4x4 training

Bass Lake offers a variety of 4×4 training in challenging off-road conditions suitable for all levels of drivers. Courses include a gravel road course and a 4×4 obstacle course. Self-drive is also accommodated on our off-road trail.

4 x 4 Training

There are two levels in our off-road training program hosted by 4×4 specialist, Alan Pepper. They can be done individually or may be combined for a full day of training and fun.

We pride ourselves on personalised service and attention to your needs. The emphasis is on training. As a result, we limit our vehicle numbers, on training courses to maximise your practical experience and enjoyment. We’ll be done by 14h30 after which a two-course lunch is served with tea or coffee (level two only). Soft drinks are provided throughout the day.

Vegetarians or diabetics can be catered for.

We encourage family attendance as all group members learn a tremendous amount, even if not personally driving. Guests are welcome to stay and enjoy a drink or two after the day’s events.

You will be driving your own vehicle and we regret, no 2 x 4’s allowed.

From 08h00 to 11h00

Guests would arrive at approximately 08:00 a.m. Welcome tea or coffee is served. Indemnities are signed followed by a short talk to illustrate certain off-road principles. The practical exercises then follow.

We focus on:

  • Dirt road driving
  • Vehicle control
  • Illustrate the differences between 2×4 and 4×4
  • ABS braking
  • Straight line and obstacle avoidance.

  • Driver: R1000
  • Adult Passengers: R300

Includes lunch and you are welcome to stay for the day and enjoy our facilities.

From 11h00 to 14h30

For those who didn’t take part in the Level One training earlier in the day, indemnities are signed, followed by a briefing and some theory.

We focus on:

  • Ascents and descents of varying angles
  • Side slopes
  • Vehicle control and a rock bed
  • Discussion on practical issues

We start with small obstacles, gradually increasing in difficulty up to grade 4. The object of the course is to build the confidence that comes with knowing your vehicle’s capabilities, knowing your own capabilities and equipping you with enough knowledge to enable you to make safe decisions off-road. All drivers participate in each obstacle unless you have specific requests.

We do the course at a walking pace. Learning to approach the obstacle at the right angle to create traction and clearance is the skill.

  • Driver: R1850
  • Adult Passengers: R450
  • Children under 13: R250
  • Welcome tea and soft drinks provided
  • Includes a two-course lunch
  • A competency certificate will be issued
